8 Makeup Mistakes that Make You Look Older

With age, our skin changes… Unfortunately, we don’t always think about adapting our makeup routine to these changes. What are the makeup mistakes to avoid looking more aged? We tell you everything!

Why adapt your makeup routine when you get older?

From the age of 25, the regeneration of our cells decreases, as does the production of collagen. Over time, our skin loses elasticity and firmness, which can lead to the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This should not prevent us from taking care of our skin and continuing to wear makeup as we like to do. However, our skin is different, and new problems appear. The beauty gestures that worked wonderfully until now must be reviewed and corrected. Rest assured, we have tracked down for you the mistakes to avoid making for a neat and well-thought-out makeup. All this, no matter your age!

Mistake #1: Using a foundation that covers too much

If you have a dull complexion and a few wrinkles around the corners of your eyes, you might be tempted to use a thick, high-coverage foundation. With age and sagging skin, it is better to opt for a fluid and light texture. The latter will sublimate your skin texture rather than weighing it down. In addition, these thick foundations tend to strongly mattify the skin. If it may seem like a good idea at first glance, know that a “glowing” complexion is not only very trendy but brings a touch of refreshing naturalness for a fresh and radiant complexion.

Mistake #2: Opting for a lipstick that is too dark

You have to have a hell of a good complexion to be able to wear lipstick in very dark shades… Indeed, these shades tend to mark wrinkles, dull the complexion and bring out the slightest flaw in your skin. That is why, after a certain age, it is advisable to opt for lighter shades. They will illuminate the complexion like raspberry pink, a vermilion red, or even a bright orange! Dark-colored lipstick will also harden facial features, which generally ages the person wearing it.

Mistake #3: Using black to make up your eyes

Black is a radical hue. Often adopted in makeup without really worrying about whether it matches your skin tone or the color of your eyes. A smoky eye can work, but if you wear a line of black liner above your lashes and just below your lower eyelid every day, be mindful that this process tends to narrow your eyes and harden eyes.

Result: you look older than you really are.

Take the test: makeup one side of your face as you usually do with your black pencil and on the other side, test our tips… We use a brown, plum, or gold pencil above the upper lashes and we replace the blow of pencil under the lower eyelashes with a white or light nude pencil on the inside of the lower eyelid. So? Yes, that’s what enlarges the look and gives you a better look!

Mistake #4: Not using primer for eye makeup

As we age, the skin loses its suppleness and elasticity. This is quickly felt in the eyelids, the skin of which becomes thinner and wrinkles slightly when your eyes are open. Over time, your makeup will therefore slip into creases, and this risks aging you. Fortunately, there is a well-thought-out solution: eyelid makeup primer. Like a foundation, this product will prepare the eyelid by smoothing it. It will set the makeup that you will then apply.

Mistake #5: Skipping eyebrows

In makeup to look younger, count on a well-defined eyebrow, groomed and made up. It gives good looks. Looking awake, enlarged, and fresh, your eyebrows can even permit you to do without eye makeup! We, therefore, do not ignore this often neglected area and we opt for a pencil or an eyebrow marker of the right shade.

Mistake #6: Using shimmery eyeshadow

In makeup to look younger, use eye shadow. Iridescent, they bring light to your eyes. Which makes it an ally for makeup for mature skin… or not! Indeed, they tend to highlight your wrinkles and fine lines because of the reflections they will generate. For the eyes, opt for matte or neutral powders and avoid glitter for a simple and effective youthful look.

Mistake #7: Not powdering your concealer

Aging skin is skin more prone to dark circles and puffiness, it’s nature. It is therefore natural to use a concealer on a daily basis. However, a concealer, such as a foundation, that covers too much can form streaks during the day and accentuate your wrinkles and puffiness instead of making them disappear. Little tip: once you have applied your concealer, remember to put a loose powder on top to fix it well for the day!

Mistake #8: Not using a pencil to outline the lips

In the makeup to look younger, forget the pencil for the mouth. Along with the eyes, the mouth is one of the very first places where fine lines and wrinkles appear on the face. This is why it is essential to pay attention to this fragile area which can quickly lead to unnecessary aging if it is not properly made up. If you are a fan of lipstick, you will definitely see that it tends to sneak into the micro folds that surround your mouth throughout the day. This completely natural phenomenon tends to age you without you even realizing it. To fix this, it is crucial to outline the contours of your mouth utilizing a lip pencil of the same shade as your lipstick before applying the latter. This prevents the lipstick from creeping in during the day.
