If they are rather easy to makeup, almond-shaped eyes still require you to pursue a few rules to be completely highlighted.
Indeed, almond eyes can sometimes lack relief, which typically gives a look that lacks depth. Fortunately, it is very easy to remedy this with the help of the right makeup and the right beauty gestures, and you have reached the right place!
Here’s how to apply makeup on almond eyes to enhance your look.
How do I know if I have almond eyes?
Not certain if you have almond eyes? Don’t worry, it’s pretty easy to check! You just need to carefully observe certain criteria to determine whether your eyes are almond-shaped or not.
Begin by removing your makeup and then stand in front of a well-lit mirror.
Look at the outer corner of your eye: if your eyes are almond-shaped, they should be rather pointed, this is what stretches the gaze and gives almond eyes their recognizable oval shape.
If your eyes are almond-shaped, you should hardly see the white of your eye above or below your iris.
Finally, the mobile eyelid must be visible; if your fixed eyelid covers it, you most certainly have slanted eyes and not almond-shaped.

Proper makeup for almond eyes: our advice
When you are sure that you actually have almond eyes, you can move on to makeup. Here are the different steps to apply makeup for almond eyes.
1-Prepare the eyelid
First of all, and because we are going to apply eye shadow to makeup, we strongly advise you to prepare the area by applying an eye base or, failing that, a little of your usual concealer to unify the skin and promote the good hold of the eye shadow.
Then apply a nude shadow on your entire mobile eyelid, overflowing on the fixed eyelid. Opt for a very classic matte shadow, the objective being to unify the area and ensure that the colors applied afterward will stand out well.
2-Illuminate the look
One of the characteristics of almond-shaped eyes is that they often tend to lack a bit of relief, the make-up must therefore provide this depth which is sometimes lacking with the help, in particular, of a set of shadows and light.
We advise you to apply a very light touch of highlighter under the brow bone, outwards, and at the inner corner of your eye. Keep a light hand, the result must be discreet, it is simply a question of depositing some pigments which will catch the light.
If you don’t have a highlighter, opt for a clear and iridescent eye shadow, it will do the job perfectly.
3-Intensify the gaze and give it depth
For this step, you will need a dark shadow, for example, khaki, gray, copper, and dark blue… (depending on the color of your iris).
Apply this shade to the outer corner of your eye, making sure to blur it well so that it blends imperceptibly with the previously applied nude eye shadow. To do this, use a blending brush and draw a kind of tip towards the outside of the eye, which passes through the lower lash line and the crease of the eyelid.
Put the same shadow on your lower lashline using a more precise brush, for example, an angled brush. You can make a line more or less sharp, according to your preferences.
Finally, add a good dose of mascara after curling your eyelashes with an eyelash curler. For a more sophisticated look, put on a pair of false eyelashes.
4-Structure the look
Last step for perfectly made-up almond eyes: structure your eyes by applying makeup to your eyebrows.
Make up your eyebrows according to your favorite method, following their natural shape as much as possible. Also, be sure to brush them well and apply a light gel if they tend to “comb” during the day.
What about eyeliner?
When you have almond-shaped eyes, you can, if you wish, further accentuate their cat’s eye shape with a line of eyeliner, but only if you master the technique!
If you want to try it, we recommend that you draw a thin line at the level of the upper eyelash and settle for a discreet comma to avoid lengthening your eyes even further.
In addition, if your eyes are rather small, avoid black eyeliner, which may shrink them further, and favor a brown, gray, or khaki liner.
Finally, if your eyes are droopy, avoid eyeliner and prefer to trace your upper lash line with dark eye shadow and an angled brush. The result is more blurred, which helps to lighten the eye.
What you must remember :
In short, some good makeup tips for almond eyes:
- Plays on contrasts with a light shade on the inner corner and a dark shade on the outer corner
- Brighten the look with a highlighter tip under the eyebrow and another at the inner corner of the eye
- We avoid too-dramatic eyeliner lines and very marked commas.
