Rare Beauty, founded by Selena Gomez, has become a beloved brand on TikTok. The brand’s mega-pigmented liquid blushes and new Silky Touch Highlighter have both gone viral on the platform. With the recent expansion of the blush and bronzer range, it is no surprise that Gomez’s newest launch is in one of TikTok’s favorite product categories: lip oil.
The Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil will be available on March 30, but we had the opportunity to preview it with Gomez. In the following interview, she shares her thoughts on the new product and her favorite lip hacks, while I test out the oil.
The Product
In an interview with Allure, Gomez explains her inspiration behind the Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil. She aimed to replicate the same effect of her Soft Pinch Liquid Blush but for lips, creating a product that adds a natural flush of color that is comfortable and buildable. Gomez confesses to always loving the look of lip tints, but not their drying effect. She states that the lip oil has a unique texture that is comfortable to apply, starting as a jelly and transforming into a nourishing oil. With just one swipe, the lips appear plump and full. Gomez admires the ease of building up the color without feeling sticky.
With a unique jelly-to-oil formula, the Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil stands out from other lip products in the market. It offers a light tint while keeping lips moisturized and glossy throughout the day. The lip oil’s versatility allows users to apply one coat for a sheer look or layer it on for a bolder finish. It also contains jojoba and sunflower seed oil for added hydration and protection, with a gentle plumping effect. The product is available in eight shades, ranging from muted berry to nude brown, and is both cruelty-free and vegan.

This lip oil’s versatility extends to its compatibility with other lip products, allowing for a custom finish. According to Gomez, her go-to shade for a natural, everyday makeup look is “Hope,” a nude mauve. She suggests pairing it with the “Kind Words Matte Lip Liner” in “Worthy,” a muted mauve, or something with a bit more pink, like “Humble,” a rose mauve.
My Review
Initially, I was skeptical about the Soft Pinch Lip Oil, but it has now become my ultimate lip product. Contrary to what I anticipated, the product has a gel-like texture with a gentle plumping effect upon application. When the lips are rubbed together, the gel dissolves into a glossy oil that is not overly shiny or tacky. The product’s pigmentation is my favorite aspect; it creates a vibrant pop of color, much more so than other lip oils, resulting in a long-lasting popsicle stain effect. I am currently loving the Honesty shade, which offers a subtle ’90s brown look.
