When the seasons change, we often consider changing our hair color to freshen up our looks. Typically, warmer weather prompts us to go lighter, but there are many other options for a color refresh this spring. To showcase this, we spoke with two celebrity hair colorists who revealed the biggest hair color trends for spring 2023.
According to Sharon Dorram, celebrity colorist and owner of Sharon Dorram Color at Sally Hershberger, this season is all about embracing the full spectrum of hair color. This includes everything from ashy blonde to deep copper, as well as embracing natural grays.
If you want to ensure that your hair professional gives you the perfect hair color, then a picture can be extremely helpful. According to Justin Anderson, Co-Founder of dpHUE and celebrity colorist, “The number one thing to do is bring in lots of examples photos to your colorist. This will better explain your vision so your colorists can bring it to life.”
To keep up with the latest hair color trends for spring 2023, keep reading. We’ve got all the information you need to know about the coolest hair color trends for the upcoming season.
Pale Blonde

As usual, going blonder is a popular trend for spring, and this year is no different. In 2023, the blonde look is ultra-pale, but it’s not as cool-toned as pure platinum. According to Sharon Dorram, “Lightening up is always the direction we see in spring, but this season champagne blondes to icy platinum blondes are already being seen on Charlize Theron, Gigi Hadid, Anya Taylor-Joy and Kourtney Kardashian. They can be angelic, almost ethereal, or have an edgy rocker appeal.”
Dimensional Brunettes

If you think brown hair is boring, think again. According to Justin Anderson, “I love a color you can live in, and it still looks expensive weeks after the salon. I’ve noticed a big trend with variations of chocolate and caramel hues to add a bit of depth, in a very natural, yet noticeable way.” Brown is a great option if you want to break away from the expected lighter colors for warmer weather, and going deeper with shades of chocolate and caramel can add some interest and dimension to your hair.
Beautiful Bronze

Copper hair is still a popular choice, especially since celebrities like Megan Fox and Chrissy Teigen have recently gone red. According to Sharon Dorram, “Very important and big this season are strawberry blondes and bronze copper reds. This color is very eye-catching, whether golden copper or a softer and lighter strawberry red-blonde with babylights around the hairline.” So if you’re looking for a bold and attention-grabbing hair color, consider trying out shades of copper or strawberry blonde.

Ashy Blondes

It seems like ashy blondes are having a lot of fun lately. According to Justin Anderson, “I feel like blondes are playing with ashy tones a lot more and this is a perfect example of why. I love blondes with some rooty contrast and brighter ends. It’s effortless and gives off major cool girl vibes!” To achieve this look, you can ask your colorist for cool-toned, ashy highlights with a shadow root to keep the overall look lived-in and low-maintenance.
Bronde

It looks like the bronde hair color might be sticking around, at least for this spring season. If you’re still unsure what bronde hair color entails, Sharon Dorram describes it as a “richer and deeper golden honey blonde.” “Bronde is very popular,” she says. “It is soft, romantic, luxurious, and sexy.” Depending on the look you want to achieve, you can opt for a more highlighted version of the shade for a California-girl vibe, or go for a solid golden color for a super sophisticated look.
Expensive Brunette

The rich and luxurious hue of deep chocolate to mink is still going strong this spring season. According to Sharon Dorram, “Opulent, deep chocolate to mink are expensive brunettes. This color is very dramatic and gorgeous on the right person. It is mysterious and yet very glamorous.” This trend is popular among celebrities, and you can look to Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, Zendaya, Hailey Bieber, and Demi Moore for inspiration if you’re considering going for this expensive brunette look.
Deep Copper

Justin Anderson recently saw a girl with stunning dark copper hair at a salon and everyone was obsessed with the color. He notes that it’s a high-maintenance color but absolutely stunning. To make this shade look its best, Anderson suggests using dpHUE’s Glossy Glaze, which launches on 3/28, to increase the shine factor and add a hint of color for added dimension. According to Anderson, “This is liquid shine in a bottle that will level up your hair game in just two minutes. You can expect instant shine, subtle color, and beautifully soft hair.”
Going Gray

The trend of going gray is becoming more popular, with many women embracing their natural color instead of covering it up. According to Dorram, natural gray has become a trend, and it’s not just limited to women of a certain age. Celebrities like Paulina Porizkova, Andie MacDowell, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Jane Fonda have all embraced their gray locks. To make this trend work for you, you can choose to show off as much or as little natural gray as you’d like, whether it’s a full head of silver or just a striking silver streak.
